<image:caption>My interest in psychology drew me to the field–I love to think about how people emotionally and cognitively relate to experiences. I strive to dig deeply into people's goals and empathize with their experiences. It’s only through truly internalizing our users’ mindsets that we imagine products that will solve their problems. Putting people at the center of my practice encompasses collaborating with teammates. There’s nothing better than feeling part of a team. Inclusivity, listening, recognition of other people’s work, and humor are central to the way I operate on a team–whether I’m a mentor to a more junior designer, in a design review, or working cross-functionally. Whether it’s working on a team, understanding someone else’s perspective, navigating a tough flow, or digging into data, I feel lucky to have a job that lets me use so many parts of my brain.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There are only two groups of photos (FNOL and underwriting) included in the MVP. I considered eliminating the sidebar nav altogether. Without many albums to look through, the sidebar takes up screen space without providing critical utility. But after discussing with dev, we decided keeping the sidebar in v1 would enable quicker iterations.</image:caption>

      <image:title>My Work - AVA Virtual Witness Photos</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the largest changes to the workflow was the compare functionality. After clicking "compare" button, instead of selecting photos to compare, the two photo groups that are auto-loaded into the photos experience are automatically compared. Given only FNOL and underwriting photos are included in v1, comparing photos is one of the most common actions an adjuster would want to take and should be easy to access. I considered making the compare mode the default experience (similar to the current photos design,) but ultimately decided against it–most claims don't have underwriting photos associated with them, so in about 75% of cases this would just limit the screen real estate adjusters have to view photos.</image:caption>

      <image:title>My Work - AVA Virtual Witness Photos</image:title>
<image:caption>Because they didn't require as much backend work, we were able to include the description, comment, and mark up functionalities in the v1–a huge win for adjusters. Additionally, I decided to make photos full screen when adjusters clicked the info button. One of the drawbacks of user testing a prototype is that something that seems functional in the abstract might not actually be in practice. After reflection, I felt enabling mark ups on photo thumbnails would not be functional.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We felt option 1 was more aligned with our design principle. After consulting with legal and engineering, we also realized back charging No Signal charges was not an option, so had to revise our strategy. Additionally, we realized the service experience in two of the four flows could be consolidated into one flow. (Click to view in more detail)</image:caption>

<image:title>My Work - Service design for the Pulse device signal loss flows - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Penalty charges, otherwise known as Penalty Miles are a flat-rate, daily charge of 250 miles. The average Metromile customer drives about 6k miles a year or about 16 miles a day, so though a 250-mile daily charge really motivated users to make sure their device was connected, it also felt like a harsh penalty. Prior to this project, this was the experience all users who lost their device signal would experience.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In this experience map, each user intention has its own column while the color coding represents our system’s ability to differentiate between scenarios, e.g. all user experiences coding in red are ones where we know a user has unplugged their device at the time of signal loss. As I created this, one of the complicating factors was whether Metromile had sent the user a battery-powered device (with its own internal power source, enabling it to send a signal to Metromile even when the user’s car is off) or a non-battery device (without its own power source and the capability to sending a signal to Metromile when the user’s car is off.) In practice, Metromile was able to get real-time data from battery devices, but only get data from non-battery devices once the device was reconnected to the user’s car. Whether a user was sent a battery or non-battery device was completely random.</image:caption>
